The first Strengthening Personal Resilience Citizen Circle was started in June, 2011 as part of the Summer 2011 round of Hub DC Citizen Circles.
In order to survive, individuals and organizations must adapt to stressors that challenge their existence. These challenges are ubiquitous and are met with a variety of responses, some beneficial long-term survival, others not. Resilience is one model for articulating the complex interplay between the internal structure of individuals and organizations and their adaptive or maladaptive responses to external threats.
The goals of this citizen circle are to explore how the resilience model can play a role in our understanding of individuals and organizations as well as to develop and cultivate resilience factors within ourselves and our entrepreneurial endeavors.
By the end of this citizen circle, we will be able to:
- Understand the concept of resilience and the factors contributing to resilience and vulnerability.
- Learn eight techniques to increase individual resilience.
- Identify resilient organizational practices and their implication for successful business models.
- Understand the concept of radical resilience and its role in adaptation to unforeseen stressors.
